B&K Intros Low-Cost 5MHz DDS Function Generator
Low-cost DDS function generator.
Yorba Linda, CA — B&K Precision has introduced its latest low-cost direct digital synthesis (DDS) function generator. Called the 4005DDS, the new function generator delivers sinusoidal, triangular, and square waveforms at frequencies up to 5MHz, and provides the fundamental functions needed to familiarize new users with function generators.
The new instrument is targeted for educational applications and other areas that need basic waveform generation at a low cost of entry.
Users concerned with precise frequency control are turning to DDS-capable function generators to reap the benefits of more finely tunable frequencies and no drift due to temperature changes or aging of components, a problem with many analog function generators. The new instrument has a 4-digit display and simple numeric keypad to generate sine, square, and triangular waveforms from 1Hz to 5MHz. With a variable output amplitude to 10Vpp into 50Ω or 20Vpp into open circuit, the instrument includes a variable DC offset knob and the ability to attenuate the output waveform by up to 40dB. In addition, the 4005DDS offers an adjustable 20-to-80 percent duty cycle function for square waveforms up to 3MHz and a SYNC output for TTL level signals. A Kensington security slot is provided on the rear for locking the instrument to a bench.
