Tecate Intros High-Temp Ultracapacitor Cells
San Diego, CA — The Tecate Group has introduced the newest members of the PowerBurst
family of cylindrical, radial leaded ultracapacitor cells. The new TPLE series of PowerBurst
ultracapacitors is 100 percent RoHS compliant, and offers extended operating temperature up to +85°C. Capacitance values range from 5 to 100F.
According to the company, the cells are rapidly becoming designers' preferred choice to supplement, and in some cases replace batteries. The electrochemical double-layer capacitors (EDLCs) offer extremely low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) for high power and low loss during operation. The lightweight, small form factor parts are maintenance-free, have an extended wide operating temperature range, and offer a high charge/discharge cycle life along with high usable capacity. The low-leakage current ultracapacitors charge quickly and safely, and deliver frequent energy pulses without harmful effects or reduced life.
Suitable for providing pulse and hold-up power in hand-held and portable devices using microprocessors, the TPLE Series of general-purpose ultracapacitors may be specified for energy storage in space-constrained applications. According to the company, they are optimal for use in storage, battery packs, wireless communications, mobile computing, and industrial applications. Among the parts' most common applications are in RAID storage, smart grid, portable data terminals, personal digital assistants, pagers, peak power shaving, and remote monitoring equipment.
The ultracapacitors can also be used in conjunction with batteries, or other power sources, when batteries alone do not meet performance objectives. Cells are also used to hold or bridge power when the primary power source fails, or when a battery is swapped out. They have an operating temperature range from -40 to +85°C, further making them a logical alternative to batteries in extended temperature applications.
The TPLE Series is provided in 7 specific capacitance values ranging from 5 to 100F, and in sizes of 10mm (D) X 20mm to 18mm (D) X 45mm. PowerBurst ultracapacitors are available in tolerances of -0 to +40 percent.
