KardexRemstar Shuttle VLM for Medical Mfg. Storage
Overhead carousel storage system recovers floor space.
Westbrook, ME — The KardexRemstar Shuttle
Vertical Lift Module (VLM) gives supervisors in medical device manufacturing industries improved inventory control and accountability, plus added cleanliness for stored items.
Access control improves the security of the Shuttle VLM by "locking out" non-authorized personnel from specific storage trays. The system's access control feature works in conjunction with FastPic Systems inventory management and control software. The supervisor simply selects the storage tray where restricted access applies and loads a user list using the system's software, which allows full customization of accessibility. It can be programmed to limit access by individual employee or department, for example, and can be re-programmed quickly to meet changing security and inventory needs. The Shuttle VLM is an enclosed system of vertically arranged trays, an extraction platform and a series of computerized controls that allow operators to stay in one place as the Shuttle VLM delivers items to an ergonomically positioned workstation.
Full product enclosure maintains the cleanliness of stored items and reduces outside contamination and cross contamination. The Shuttle VLM can be customized to meet specific cleanliness requirements, up to classification 100,000.
A wide range of bin sizes, shelves and dividers, security doors, and rollout drawers allow flexibility for efficient storage. These systems can be integrated with environmental control systems to reduce the effect of ambient factors — such as temperature and humidity — to maximize shelf life.
Integrated pick-to-light devices, bar code scanning and software routines provide the highest levels of picking and putting accuracy while simplifying and reducing employee training requirements and significantly increasing productivity and throughput.
The system provides optimum storage efficiency by taking advantage of unused overhead space, recovering up to 75 percent of available floor space.
