Newport Intros Photovoltaic Measuring System
Photovoltaic measuring system.
Irvine, CA — Newport Corporation's Oriel® Instruments division has unveiled the Oriel IQE-200, the innovative instrument that permits simultaneous measurements of both the external quantum efficiency (EQE) and the internal quantum efficiency (IQE) of solar cells, detectors, or any photon-to-charge converting devices. The new instrument's integrated measurement system is an innovative, patent-pending design incorporating novel detector geometry which splits the beam, allowing for concurrent measurements.

The photovoltaic cell measurement system combines a rugged and durable Oriel light source, a monochromator, advanced sensor technology, and related electronics and software. The Oriel QE Commander software, pre-loaded on a PC, is designed to control all the components and accessories, providing a simultaneous, real-time readout of EQE and IQE in a single measurement. The turnkey solution is a preconfigured, calibrated assembly with 4-channel data acquisition for very rapid measurement.

The AC measurements are performed in accordance with ASTM 1021-06 guidelines, offering reliable operation and easy installation with minimal setup time.

The cost-effective unit is the first product in the IQE-200 family of the company's systems for measuring total solar cell quantum efficiencies. It is suitable for the measurement of silicon-based cells, both amorphous and mono/poly-crystalline, thin film cells, copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS), and cadmium telluride (CdTe).
