ECD: Easy Oven Verification Without Thermocouples
Oven thermal profiler.
Milwaukie, OR — ECD has introduced OvenCHECKER, the latest addition to its line of thermal profiling and oven verification products. Used to verify that ovens remain in spec after a board's initial "characterization" profile, OvenCHECKER is designed to be self-contained, and requires no thermocouples or repeated use of "golden boards." This means the vital step of oven verification takes place without the time-consuming task of T/C attachment, thus reducing production time and as a result, lowering costs.

An operator can be trained to use OvenCHECKER in less than two minutes. And because it comes as a complete kit that includes a three-sensor pallet, V-M.O.L.E.® thermal profiler with M.A.P.® software, and a thermal barrier, it also eliminates assembly time being spent gathering profiling equipment.

Thermal profiling, as ECD teaches in its Thermal Quality Management Program (ThQM) is a process, not a single step. All thermal profiling starts with the initial characterization of the board, a customized target profile developed using anywhere from six to twenty thermocouples or more. It is after that initial profile has been established that surveys show the thermal management process often breaks down.

Verification of the initial profile is necessary during successive production runs, but not always accomplished. This is where OvenCHECKER steps in, eliminating objections regarding time spent, "golden-board" cost, and training and interpretation required. It is an easily learned standalone system.

Utilizing ECD's robust M.A.P (V2.18) software as it travels through the oven, it compares the oven's profile to the engineer's target-profile input and with a push of its unique "OK Button" indicates if the oven is in or out of specification.
