Schunk Intros CELSIO Shrink-Fit Tooling
Heat-shrink-fit tooling.
Morrisville, NC — Schunk is offering a line of shrink-fit tooling — CELSIO toolholders, which reportedly deliver a high degree of flexibility and almost unlimited options for combining shrinking chucks and extensions. The adjustable tooling is especially suitable for a wide range of applications because of high torque transmission and high rigidity. The company guarantees true running of <0.003mm (checked at inside end of clamping bore).

Flexibility is the key because a limited number of chuck bodies are required to provide a wide range of diameters, toolholder costs are minimized. The chuck bodies are manufactured using special steel to ensure maximum holder life without temperature distortion. Mounting tapers are ground to grade AT3, Form A and high-temperature as well as special hardening procedures that help avoid any material distortion due to heating and cooling.

The unit operates with a simple control panel for operator ease. A high frequency induction coil with 10kW power delivers fast shrinking for 3 to 32mm diameter carbide tools and 6 to 32mm diameter HSS toolholders. Rapid cooling within 30 seconds minimizes excessive heating of the taper, resulting in non-warping due to this special heat treatment process. Adapters can also be used in cooling units to facilitate the cooling of extensions and non-standard heat shrinking chucks.
