Diversified Develops Hi Power Klystron Supply
High-energy Klystron power system.
Bedford, MA — Diversified Technologies, Inc. was selected by the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) of Oxfordshire, England (after a worldwide search) to produce a fully solid-state Klystron Power Supply for the RAL's ISIS front end test stand. The test stand is intended to permit high energy experiments exploring numerous operational conditions.
The power system that DTI developed is all solid-state and includes two high-voltage switching power supplies, each capable of producing 220kW CW power at 110kV (max.) with 0.1 percent regulation. Fully adjustable and highly reliable, they power supplies are combined in parallel and produce 60-150kV cathode voltage, 20-100Amps cathode current, PRF 50-1,000Hz, beam pulse width 20-2ms, a 150kV switch rate, and greater than 10 percent duty cycle.
Eliminating a large pulse transformer and crowbar, the Klystron Power System reduces the available arc energy and simplifies the mod-anode voltage control. The main solid-state switch consists of a stack of 10 switchplates connected in series to provide a maximum voltage standoff of 150kV. A single switch plate is rated at 15kV and peak currents of 500Amps.
