EPCOS: Barometric Pressure Sensor
Iselin, NJ — EPCOS has extended its series of ASB1200 gel-protected barometric pressure sensors to include new types that have calibrated analog interfaces. Measuring only 4 x 4 x 2.5mm, they are the world's smallest sensors of their kind.
The heart of the new ASB1200V1 and ASB1200VR sensors is a piezoresistive sensor chip, which is mounted in hybrid technology together with the ASIC. Both types offer integrated signal processing. The ASB1200V1 provides an output voltage of 0 to 1V, and the ASB1200VR delivers a radiometric output voltage of 10 to 90 percent of the operating voltage.
The sensors are designed specifically for low voltage applications requiring pressure measurement in moist media. The sensors are optimized for an absolute pressure measurement of 300 to 1200 mbar and operate with a supply voltage of between 2.7 and 5.5V. Their minimum response time is 1ms.
The sensor's package has a gel-protected stainless steel pressure port, which is suitable for integration in IP54 applications. The new sensors enable a further miniaturization of barometric applications in devices such as cameras with altimeter
functionality, cycling computers, gas analyzers and meters, or HVAC systems in buildings.
