"Drop-In" Polymer from Ticona Now Used at Samtec
Florence, KY and Kelsterbach, Germany — Samtec Inc. now offers its PC board interconnect customers a new halogen-free flame retardant polymer option from Ticona Engineering Polymers. The material is the enhanced Celanex® XFR® 6842 thermoplastic polyester (PBT) series with improved processability and equivalent properties for "drop-in" solutions in eco-friendly electrical and electronic components.

In the case of the commercially available part, Samtec proved that Celanex XFR PBT is a viable "drop in" engineering thermoplastic candidate for use as a running change for brominated PBT parts. They successfully molded a challenging 5-in. interconnect in an eight-cavity tool using a filled grade of Celanex XFR PBT.

The Celanex XFR PBT series portfolio is available in filled and unfilled grades that match the flow and toughness of the brominated FR series from Ticona. The new Celanex PBT series with its patented XFR system provides several advantages over the highest performing non-halogenated FR polyesters available today.
