Panasonic Intros High Rate Lithium Ion Cell
Lithium ion cells.
Rolling Meadows, IL — Panasonic has introduced a new high rate lithium ion cell, the CGR26650A. The cell's Nickel Manganese-based cathode material delivers higher discharge rates and better temperature stability than comparable cells, while the company's exclusive heat resistance layer (HRL) technology provides safer operation. The new cells are suitable for multi-cell applications.
Specific features include high discharge rate capability, up to 40 Amps; 2650 mAH typical capacity; high recharge rate capacity, with most capacity recovered within 20 minutes; wide operating temperature range; and excellent cycle life.
The new cell is lighter, with more power than traditional chemistries, and is suitable for portable power tools, medical equipment, memory storage, backup power, and uninterruptible power supplies.
According to a company spokesperson, the introduction of the CGR26650A underscores Panasonic's position at the leading edge of lithium ion technology. For applications from power tools to medical equipment, memory storage and back up power to full scale UPS systems, this new cell will prove highly useful.
