Murata Intros DC/DC Converters
Mansfield, MA — Murata Power Solutions has introduced its UEI-series of isolated, wide-range DC/DC Converters that deliver 50-60W of power output from a standard 40.6 x 50.8 x 10.16mm (1.6 x 2 x 0.4-in.) PC board mounted, open frame package. The regulated UEI series has an operating temperature range of -40 to +85°C and is suitable for a wide range of "current hungry" applications.
Applications include use in industrial, wireless and mobile communications, transportation, medical and instrumentation. According to the company, plastic cased versions are available upon request.
The new product line includes two 4:1 ultra-wide range input voltages: 18-75VDC Vin combined with outputs of either 3.3V at 18A or 5.0V at 12A for a total power of 60W, and 9-36VDC input, combined with 3.3V at 15A, 5.0V at 10A and 12V at 4.2A for 50W of output power.
Capable of stable no-load operation without external components, the converters use synchronous rectifier forward topology for high efficiency operation, resulting in minimal heat buildup and the ability to be operated using convection cooling without the need for fans. The converters provide full magnetic and optical isolation of up to 2250VDC provides basic insulation. Good ripple and noise specifications assure compatibility to circuits using CPUs, ASICs, programmable logic and FPGAs.
Extensive self-protection and shutdown features are incorporated in the new design, including: input undervoltage lockout, over-temperature protection, over-current "hiccup", auto re-start, output overvoltage protection and reverse conduction immunity. Additional features include monotonic start-up, output voltage trim and remote on/off with either positive or negative logic.
The converters are fully RoHS-compliant and all versions have UL60950-1, CSA-C22.2 No.60950-1 and IEC/EN60950-1 safety approvals.
