Nestronics: Highly Focused EMS

Established in Singapore in 1979, Nestronics offers high-end, integrated electronics manufacturing services (EMS) and solutions for original equipment manufacturers. The company has built up manufacturing facilities in Singapore and India, and an extensive marketing and sales network across the USA and Europe. It has also forged strategic logistics alliances with key vendors in these regions as well as in Asia.

In addition, Nestronics is now building a facility in Malaysia, so it can offer a third option to customers for the location of their manufacturing. The facility in Malaysia, which is scheduled for completion in January 2009, will initially support two lines but will have provision for expansion based on customer requirements.

The company, previously known as Nera Electronics Ltd, specializes in end-to-end manufacturing solutions such as new product introduction, test development, manufacturing and specialized after-sales services. Key industries that it services include the Telecommunication & Instrumentation, Medical & Bioscience, Avionics/Oil & Gas, as well as other industrial product segments. With a proven track record and a wealth of valuable expertise, the company offers its customers value through cost-effective, high variation, medium-volume manufacturing solutions. This includes PCBA manufacturing and tests as well as a full box build services.

Six Assembly Lines
With four lines running in Singapore and two running in Chennai, India, the company has the flexibility to address a wide variety of customer requirements.

With its SMT lines that can support both RoHS and non-RoHS requirements, the Singapore facility can manufacture 650,000 boards per year and occupies a floor space of 49,000 square feet. The lines can handle Ball Grid arrays down to a pitch of 0.7mm, PC boards that are up to 14 layers thick and up to 20 x 18-in. in size, and SMT devices that are as small as the 0201 devices. In addition, RF testing can be conducted up to 23GHZ, offering extensive telecommunications equipment manufacturing and testing.

As part of the company's overall philosophy of quality, the facility also has both Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) and 2D X-ray inspection capability.

Testing and Manufacturing
To provide a full turnkey solution to its customers, Nestronics offers prototyping services to help facilitate bringing new products to full production. In addition, the company's new product introduction runs include a product Design for Testability (DFT) analysis that is performed by the company's Test Engineering Department and focuses on test efficiency. This results in a report to the end customer calling out recommendations on how to improve test efficiency and hence, reduce test time and cost associated with testing.

Also included in the front end is a Design for Manufacturability (DFM) analysis, as with the DFT Analysis, this service results in a report to the customer with design change recommendations focused on reducing the total manufacturing time and the associated cost of manufacturing.

Cost Reduction
To continue design recommendations and process improvements beyond DFT and DFM analyses, Nestronics will continuously work to identify alternate sourcing for both components and services and value-added activities for continuous cost improvements.

Also, the company offers a Logistics Management Service that includes drop shipment to the customers' end customers. To complement this, Nestronics will also configure products for specific regions and languages, power grid requirements, software requirements and so on to meet customers requirements.

The management team ensures that all employees are adequately trained and at the same time plan and organize Certified IPC610 Trainer (CIT) and Certified IPC610 Specialist (CIS) programs, on-the-job training, as well as internal and external training courses for the staff. The company is also involved in developing Six Sigma initiatives with some of our key customers.

The company's quality and environmental management certifications achieved include:

  • ISO 9001:2000 (Quality Management).
  • AS 9100:2004 (Aerospace Industry).
  • ISO 14001:2004 (Environmental).
  • ISO 13485:2003 (Medical Devices Industry).

Nestronics is approved by Underwriter's Laboratories to ZPVI2 and ZPVI8 for printed wiring assembly traceability. Also achieved are the safety mark approvals from the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and the Electrical Testing Laboratories (ETL) for selected products.
Over the years, Nestronics has established and developed an extensive network of marketing and sales representatives in the U.S. With a marketing presence in over 20 states including Massachusetts, California, Texas and Illinois, it established Nestronics, Inc.
