Electrolube: Flexible Silicone Coating

Swadlincote, Derbyshire, UK — Test results for Electrolube's Flexible Silicone Coating, FSC, performed by SGS in Beijing, revealed that FSC meets the IEC standard 61086-2. The fast drying silicone-based conformal coating has been designed to protect PC boards exposed to high humidity environments. FSC passed all tests for coatings for loaded printed wire boards, including thermal aging, flexibility, damp heat and salt mist.

Samples were tested and passed for insulation resistance and breakdown voltage after the damp heat and salt mist experiments. During the tests conducted by SGS, visual inspection using ultraviolet light revealed no voids, holes or delamination on the samples and no loss of adhesion or discoloration of the copper conductors. Furthermore, SGS performed a test for tackiness which revealed that when a 500g load is applied for 1 minute, FSC remains non-tacky.

The coating material reportedly offers excellent adhesion to a wide variety of substrates and fluoresces under UV light for ease of inspection. With a wide operating temperature, ranging from -50 to +125°C, FSC is touch-dry at 20°C in 10 to 15 minutes. Available in 400ml aerosol and 5 liter bulk containers, FSC contains no isocyanates so it can be soldered through without fear of highly toxic gases being produced. The coating meets V-1 level of the UL approval and gives good results for this level of flame retardancy.
