Upbeat APEX Expo Showcases the Connected Factory

By Michael Skinner, Editor

Robotic arm controlled by its digital twin.

This year’s IPC APEX, held from February 27 to March 1, was dominated by the theme of the connected factory. Insight into the real-time status of production equipment on the show floor was provided by IPC’s CFX data and control standard. Special CFX-branded tape marked the boundaries of the 26 participating companies’ booths.

Using any device with an Internet connection, visitors could view the entire list of connected, data-transmitting production machines in a browser-based dashboard. By scanning a QR code with a smartphone, guests could quickly access the information for the machines at a specific booth. Selecting a particular vendor then showed a range of data points, including overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), current state, utilization, unit counts, and faults.
