U.S. Tech Publisher's Choice: April 2018

Accurately tracking inventory is a basic and critical part of manufacturing. At many companies, however, procuring and managing materials is often given less attention than it deserves. Poor control of materials is a major contributor to unnecessary line downtime and can be greatly improved with new types of X-ray component counting tools.

In an article titled "Intelligent, High-Speed Component Counting with X-ray Technology", Dr. Jan Richarz and Bernd Will of optical control GmbH & Co. KG discuss the benefits of using modern X-ray technology to count components on reels quickly and accurately. This can reduce the time spent looking for extra components and ordering replacements on-the-fly. optical control's X-ray systems rely heavily on specially tailored algorithms, which makes them efficient and flexible.

The authors also discuss how relationships with EMS companies provided the feedback to develop the system's user interface and features. The company places a lot of emphasis on making the software easy to use and able to connect to customers' third-party factory software infrastructure.
