Standard and Custom EMI Shielding from Tech-Etch
Shielding in complex forms.
Plymouth, MA — Tech-Etch is now offering standard and custom board level shielding manufactured using a photo chemical etching process — providing a high level of design flexibility while reducing the cost. The process supports very intricate geometries without expensive tooling. Heat dissipating through holes, logos and nomenclature can be incorporated with no additional cost.
For easy rework and component access, two-piece designs with removable covers are produced using standard form tools, so the tooling cost is not passed on to the customer. The standard two-piece design incorporates a unique, spring-finger style attachment between fence and cover. This design can be customized to almost any possible configuration, including rectangular, "L" shaped, "V" shaped, or even irregular shapes.
Standard board level shielding is typically etched from 0.007 to 0.020-in. brass, with tin plating. Shields can also be supplied with an insulating layer of polyimide in the cavity.
Multi-cavity designs are achieved by incorporating internal fences enabling multiple components to be shielded with the same part. Economical one-piece designs use depth etch bend lines to allow easy hand forming. Mounting options include solder through hole, push-through retention pins, or SMT pad configurations. Low Profile options are available for portable, handheld applications and smaller form factors. A wide range of materials and finishing options are offered, including soldered or resistance welded seams.
