UEI Gives UEIPAC Major Speed Boost
Programmable automation controller.
Walpole, MA — United Electronic Industries (UEI) has made a major enhancement/upgrade to the popular UEIPAC series of programmable automation controllers. Both maximum sample rate and the PAC's ability to process PID loops have been speeded up by greater than a factor of eight. The UEIPAC now allows analog input sample rates up to 576 kilosamples per second and up to 8 simultaneous PID loops at greater than 20kHz.
The new functionality greatly increases the PAC's capability in larger, more complex automation applications. No changes to existing code are required to take advantage of the new performance. Existing PACs are field upgradeable and there is no charge for the upgrade. The UEIPAC Cube is a complete, self-contained controller and includes: an embedded computer running standard Linux OS, two Ethernet ports, a serial port, an SD Card interface, an inter-PAC sync interface and either three or six slots for I/O boards. The Cubes are very rugged, and have been tested from -40 to +85°C, at 5g vibration, 50g shock and up to 70,000 feet. The Cubes have flown in F-16, F-18, B-747 and Predator aircraft. They have recently passed a comprehensive radiation test and are slated for use in the international space station.
The UEIPAC 300 allows the installation of up to 3 I/O boards. The UEIPAC 600 is slightly larger at 4 x 4.1 x 5.8-in. and allows the installation of up to 6 I/O boards (containing up to 150 analog inputs or 288 DIO). The I/O boards installed are determined by the user's application. There are currently over 20 different I/O boards available including analog input, analog output, digital I/O, counter/timer, quadrature encoder, serial I/O, CAN bus and ARINC 429 interfaces.
