Low-Cost Digital POL Modules from Power-One
Point-of-load (POL) module.
Camarillo, CA — Power-One, Inc. has introduced the 60-amp ZY8160, dubbing it the highest-current digital Point-of-Load (POL) module in the company's Z-One family of products. Use of the fully-programmable DC/DC converter can reportedly reduce development time, components, and PC board traces by up to 90 percent. This product is targeted for the server market, but is also well suited for the company's other markets, such as communications.
When used with ZM7000 Series Digital Power Managers (DPMs), the ZY8160 facilitates the complete elimination of external components for sequencing, tracking, protection, monitoring, and reporting. All parameters of the ZY8160 are programmable using the industry-standard I
C communication bus. A graphical user interface (GUI) facilitates ongoing monitoring of performance parameters and the ability for "on the fly" operating-parameter changes, without hardware changes, at any time during system development or service. Programmable parameters include, but are not limited to: output voltages, sequencing, tracking, feedback loop compensation, and protection limits. These user-defined settings are stored in a DPM and are used to initialize the ZY8160 during system startup. Unlike many other power management solutions, a ZY8160-based solution can operate autonomously in any system and does not require users to provide an I
C interface, host processor, or non-volatile memory. ZY8160-based systems can be configured to manage up to 32 digital POLs and analog components such as VRMs, LDO regulators, and fans. Compact packaging: 2.4 x 0.55-in. (61 x 10.4mm) SIP footprint and 1.1-in. (28mm) height well matches mechanical requirements for blade servers. RoHS lead-free and lead-solder-exempt products are available. Certifications to UL60950-1, CSA C22.2 No. 60950-1, and TUV EN60950-1:2001 are pending.
