PennEngineering: Self-Clinching Steel Locknuts
Self-clinching steel locknuts.
Danboro, PA — PEM
®
TRI-DENT
®
self-clinching steel locknuts from PennEngineering incorporate a special locking feature to meet demanding locking performance requirements and promote reliability of locking threads for thin-metal component assemblies. The TRI-DENT locking feature can achieve locking torque
specifications ranging from (maximum torque) 5.75 in. lbs./0.67 Nm to 35-in. lbs./4 Nm and (minimum torque) 0.4-in. lbs./0.04 Nm to 3.75-in. lbs./0.30 Nm, depending on fastener thread size.
These self-clinching locknuts (Type SL
) provide permanent load-bearing threads in steel or aluminum sheets as thin as 0.040-in. (1mm) and, upon installation, they become integral parts of an assembly. They are available in unified and metric thread sizes #4-40 through 1/4-20 and M3 through M6.
The locknuts install quickly and easily by placing the locknut in a properly sized punched or drilled hole and applying sufficient squeezing force using a standard press to embed the fastener's clinching ring completely in the metal sheet. All clinching is performed on the fastener side of the sheet, allowing the reverse side to remain flush and smooth without protrusions.
