Electronics Distribution Pioneer James "Jim" Waite Dead at 74
East Setauket, NY — Industry Pioneer Jim Waite died on April 18, 2007 at the age of 74. Jim is best known as the founder of Dove Electronic Components, a specialty distributor of crystals and oscillators.
His career in electronics spanned more than a half-century, starting with his first job in the mid 1950s as a Junior Buyer at Sperry Gyroscope, Great Neck, NY. This was followed by 7 years as a Manufacturers' Representative for Harold Gray Associates, Englewood NJ.
In the late 1960,s Jim started his first electronics distributorship, Elcom Electronics, Farmingdale, NY. During the 1970s, he owned and took part in several other successful electronics distributor ventures.
In 1983, he founded Dove Electronic Components, East Setauket, NY in with members of his immediate family. Through Dove, Jim brought the concept of a highly specialized distributor to reality with Dove's intense focus on frequency control devices. Jim will be sorely missed by family, friends and industry associates. His knowledge, kindness and humility were a comfort to all.
