U.S. Tech Publisher's Choice: March 2018
Prior to 2015, no international standard for LED light source measurements existed. The International Commission on Illumination (CIE) remedied this lack of guidance with the publication of its CIE S 025/E:2015 standard, which precisely describes photometric and colorimetric measurements of LED lamps, modules and luminaires.

In an article titled "Successfully Measuring LED Modules, Lamps and Luminaires," Mikolaj Przybyla, managing director of GL Optic Lichtmesstechnik discusses the application of the latest standard for LED light source measurements. He describes two methods, direct and indirect, for determining the luminous flux of an LED. Przybyla discusses integrating sphere measurements, new CIE recommendations relating to photometric correction of spectral mismatch, spectrometric measurement of LEDs, and proper integrating sphere coating.
