Laird Experts to Speak on Advances in Vehicle Safety and the Connected Car
EARTH CITY, MO -  Laird, a global technology company, announced that two of their subject matter experts in DSRC (Dedicated Short-Range Communications) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle/Infrastructure (V2X) will speak at automotive industry events in June.

Jim Ciccarelli, M2M segment director at Laird, will speak on a panel session titled, ?Next Steps for Connected Safety? at Telematics Detroit on June 4th in Novi, Michigan. The session will discuss the implications of the National Highway Traffic Safety Association?s (NHTSA) announcement on DSRC this past February and its implications on the connected car and vehicle safety. Particularly the panel will focus on Advance Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) designed to increase car and road safety. Laird will also be present at the exhibition portion of the event, highlighting their variety of solutions for the automotive industry through a digital vehicle display at booth #119.

Ciccarelli has over 28 years of experience in the telematics industry, focusing on innovation and new product development in electronics design. ?The NHTSA announcement in February marks the next step in vehicle safety measures. DSRC radios are an important piece of V2X communications and providing the systems to improve road safety,? Ciccarelli explained. ?The panel will also discuss the enablers and barriers to deploying DSRC solutions and the possibility of a hybrid solution to include DSRC, cellular and Wi-Fi channels in order to better support the data needs of V2X.?

In addition, Laird antenna expert, Dr. Ayman Duzdar, vice president of technology, will lead a session on June 5th at the Defining V2X Testing Workshop, hosted by the Connected Vehicle Trade Association in Troy, Michigan. The workshop session for OEM?s and Tier 1 suppliers will cover evaluation and testing needs for the DSRC radio.

?DSRC is an important topic in the connected vehicle industry right now,? said Duzdar. ?The workshop session will discuss testing requirements and specifications along with best practices for DSRC.
