Eagan, MN — Ironwood Electronics has introduced a new high-performance elastomer socket for 0.5mm pitch QFN package. The SG-MLF-7079 socket is designed for an 8 x 8 x 0.8mm package size and operates at bandwidths up to 10GHz with less than 1dB of insertion loss. The contact resistance is typically 20 milliohms per pin. The socket connects all pins with 10GHz bandwidth on all connections. The socket is mounted using supplied hardware on the target PCB with no soldering, and occupies smallest footprint in the industry. This small footprint allows inductors, resistors and decoupling capacitors to be placed very close to the device for impedance tuning. The socket also incorporates a simple hardware installation method so that ICs can be changed out quickly, and it has an opening in the middle for accessing the die and for thermal characterization purposes.

The SG-MLF-7079 sockets are constructed with high performance and low inductance elastomer contactors. The temperature range is -35 to +100°C. The pin self-inductance is 0.15nH and mutual inductance of 0.025nH. Capacitance to ground is 0.01pF. Current capacity is 2 amps per pin.
