Metcal Wins a Global Technology Award for Its New Scorpion with Side-View Camera

CHANDLERS FORD, UK ―  Metcal has announced that it was awarded a 2013 Global Technology Award in the category of Rework and Repair for its Metcal Scorpion Rework System with Side View Camera and IR Sensor. The award was presented to the company during a Tuesday, November 12, 2013 ceremony that took place at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre in Munich, Germany during Productronica. The innovative placement camera system utilized by the Scorpion Rework System features dual CMOS sensors and a digital camera rather than the traditional camera and prism setup found on most rework machines.

“OK International is thrilled that our Scorpion Rework System has been recognized in the category of rework and repair,” commented Gary Stoffer, Director of Global Sales and Marketing. “With more than 20 years of rework experience and great contribution from our loyal customers, we were able to create a user-friendly platform that addresses the full range of rework applications. The extremely positive customer response to the Scorpion has created a solid product foundation to grow upon. We look forward to working with our customers to solve all of their rework and repair challenges.”

The Side-View Camera Upgrade Kit (APR-SRS-UK3) facilitates visibility of reflow during the rework process and provides the operator with an improved method of setting placement height of the vacuum and reflow nozzles. It features high magnification optics, a CMOS sensor camera with USB 2.0 connection, and picture-in-picture functionality accessed through the Scorpion software, eliminating the need for a second monitor. The double articulated arm with a wide adjustment range provides a robust and versatile camera mount, and attaches directly to the Scorpion Rework System.

The Side-View Camera Upgrade Kit was specially designed for the modular Metcal Scorpion Rework System. The Scorpion allows for simultaneous viewing of Printed Circuit Board (PCB) pads and component pads or balls for the accurate placement of BGAs. Additionally, it can create specifically tailored reflow profiles through Metcal’s unique convection heating technology with nozzle and dual-zone pre-heater in one user-friendly, single platform rework system.
