New Ironwood Socket for 35 x 35mm BGAs
New test socket accommodates FCBGAs.
Eagan, MN — Ironwood Electronics has introduced a new BGA socket design that uses a high performance elastomer, capable of 40GHz, very low inductance, high endurance and wide temperature applications. The SM-BGA-9032 socket is designed for 35 x 35mm package size and operates at bandwidths up to 40GHz with less than 1dB of insertion loss.
The socket is also designed to dissipate few watts with compression screw and can be customized to handle up to 100 watts with modified fin design on top of the screw and adding an axial flow fan. The contact resistance is typically 15 milliohms per pin. The socket connects all pins with 40GHz bandwidth on all connections. The socket is mounted on the target PCB with no soldering, and reportedly uses the industry's smallest footprint. The socket is constructed with lever-actuated clamshell lid which incorporates a quick insertion method so that ICs can be changed out quickly. The SM-BGA-9032 socket is constructed with a high performance and low inductance elastomer contactor. The temperature range is -55 to +150°C. The pin self inductance is 0.10nH and mutual inductance is 0.007nH. Capacitance to ground is 0.069pF and current capacity is 4amps per pin. The new socket works with ICs such as the Synopsys FCBGA, 35 x 35mm with 34 x 34 array and 1mm pitch.
