Large-Scale Manufacturers Rely on Juki Compatibility
Juki's dual F3AL and KE-3020VL team up to create a high-capacity assembly operation.
Morrisville, NC — High-volume manufacturing plants are using Juki equipment — specifically printers — for high visibility products, such as many of the Apple products that are made in Asia. The company's selective solder and stamp solder units are used by many automotive parts providers all over the world. These are manageable challenges, but the company isn't stopping there. Now it is developing a comprehensive solution set for the customer base that requires only one call to service all their needs.

An important factor is described as Juki's "lowest cost of ownership," which involves the entire cost of a process solution; it is not just the cost of "the box," but what it does for the customer. For example, there are only two companies that truly monitor the majority of components from the time they are picked to the time they are placed with anything more than vacuum. In the new era of electronics manufacturing, that is leaving a lot to chance. Moving 0201s, 01005s and heavy/bulky components at current processing speeds "without supervision" is a prime ingredient for rework.

In addition to system design and the customer's ability to quickly change between jobs, companies should consider everything from the cost of spares to location of "local" service, maintenance requirements and a plethora of related topics. A key indicator of this can be found by looking at the number of obsolete systems (20+ years of service) still in use by Juki customers. As a customer-centric thought process, almost all of the older Juki system feeders and feeder cart systems are compatible with systems produced today. This is critical for customers who invested with Juki and needed to grow gradually.
New sales manage Christopher Guest.

As explained by Juki's newest sales manager, Christopher Guest, who joined the company earlier this year, "I have visited many companies over the past few months with 750/760 systems side by side with 3010/3020 series systems. Often these companies have 1070/1080 systems or 2070/2080 systems as well. All of these items contribute to the lowest cost of ownership. But, to me, it speaks more to customer loyalty and a customer-centric approach to system development and customer commitment." Chris is responsible for sales in the Central and Southeast Regions of the United States, and Central Mexico.

Looking ahead, Chris divulges that Juki has entered into talks with Sony and that is looking very positive for all the players involved. Sony has a couple of technologies that will complement Juki's offering (both existing and forthcoming) as well as the synergy that exists from being a primary supplier to Sony for many years. This is key and makes this much more than just a typical Japanese merger; it truly is a complementary match that improves both companies. Looking below the surface, the combined company will dramatically expand Juki's installed base in Asia beyond the 25,000 units it already has sold worldwide. This is important because the economies of scale will allow the company to significantly expand its development and service groups. This is a total win for the customer base as well as the strength of JAS worldwide.
