Take it to the Bank

In September, the publishing industry lost a stalwart, impassioned publisher — Arthur Ochs Sulzberger — for many years at the helm of the New York Times. It was largely a family-owned business, and he had to learn it from the ground up. One of his great strengths came from his view that "paper and ink" were here to stay. This in spite of the fact that he witnessed the overwhelming growth of the Internet and new forms of technology, all impacting the process of disseminating news.

At U.S. Tech we share that vision. There is still nothing like paper and ink and the feel of a publication in your hands, even though all that information can be found a couple of mouse-clicks away on any computer, iPad, iPhone, or Droid. Of course, the look and feel of U.S. Tech has changed dramatically over the years. We started out as a skinny tabloid on cheap newsprint, with ink that would rub off on your hands — just like the New York Times. Obviously, this has changed radically.

We get a chance to talk to our friends in the industry virtually every day, and it's really good to hear people say, "You're doing an incredible job. No other publication can come close to you." Okay. We know that, but it's still music to our ears to hear such validation from our readers and advertisers. This issue is an example; it's 108 pages long and is having bonus distribution at Munich's electronica expo. This is not new for us. We have been going to trade shows in Germany and China for years, and have made many friends in Europe and in Asia.

But there is also our interactive web site, plus our digital edition — a replica of the print edition in highly portable digital format. There are free apps for the iPad, iPhone, and Droid, and it's accessible from any computer. And you should be on the lookout for our mobile web version coming next year. It will be phone phriendly! In addition, our web site carries a daily news front page, something that we maintain no matter where we are physically. And we will continue to do this, to bring the best of the electronics manufacturing industry to you in print and digital format. That's our promise to you, and you can take that to the bank.
