SMD Isotropic Antenna from Premo
Antenna for automotive keyless entry.
Malaga, Spain — Premo has developed a new electromagnetic 3D-coil antenna initially designed for KES (keyless entry system) applications. The new series 3DC14AOI Passive Entry System has become standard within the automotive industry. The key new designs increasingly require lower profiles and parts that are more robust electrically and mechanically (up to 1000 drops from more than 1m on concrete surface).

3DC14AOI is a three orthogonal-coil antenna with each coil in three spatial axes. Surface mount devices (SMD), also offer side metallization, which allows automatic inspection of soldering process using AOI. The pads are gold finished for assured connectivity between the component and the PCB circuitry. The contact surface provided by these pads are attached in such a way that the mechanical contact between the component and the PCB is increased by 25 percent over existing products.

This new antenna, designed in a low-profile form (15.7 x 13.7 x 3.6mm) offers a robust design since the windings are fully protected by a polymer matrix (vacuum process) for high stability — less than 200ppm expansion; its thermal resistance supports a double Pb-free reflow (270°C peak).

The 3DC14AOI offers high stability over a temperature range of -40 to +85°C in a compact and fully protected format (superior protection at IP685).

The product is offered in a standard value of L = 7.2mH with sensitivity greater than 80mVpp/App/m at 125kHz and maintaining a Q factor of 20. The product is recommended for Atmel, NXP and TI chipsets. In addition, the antenna can be manufactured with different electromagnetic values, according to customer needs. The antenna is AEC-Q-200 qualified.
